Corrections to the first printing

Page 45: Richard Trueman took this photo of Reco Avenue in 1895.

Page 203: States the Reco Hotel “closed in early 1906 and stayed shut for nearly a year.” In fact, the hotel closed on May 29, 1906 and reopened on Jan. 16, 1907, following a fire that destroyed the Filbert Hotel. William Bennett of the Filbert then took over the Reco and his guests moved there en masse. I know this because I got to see the guest book for those years.

Page 253: In addition to Johnny and Alma Harris, the photo at top left shows Elizabeth Hanna and brothers Virginio and Santo Celente.

Corrections to the first and second printings

Page vii: The metric equivalent of a troy ounce (which is what the precious metals mentioned in the book are weighed in) is 31 grams, not 28 grams.

Page 426: Microfilm of newspapers from Sandon and many other West Kootenay towns has been moved from the Nelson Public Library to the Nelson Museum and Archives.

Page 476: The footnote to page 341 suggests the vault in the second Virginia Block was portable. In fact, it was made of brick, just like the one in the first Virginia Block. Hal Wright still has the vault door.

Corrections to the first, second, and third printings

Page 111: John Morgan Davis became John Morgan Harris by March 1887, rather than by mid-1886. Click here to read more about how I discovered this.

Page 114: As of July 1887, Johnny had been in Wallace for about four months, not a year.

Page 235-36: Johnny purchased the 1925 Dodge before the Lincoln, not afterward. He paid $1,845 for it, not $1,700. More about his cars (including an image of the original registration for the Dodge) can be found here.
